Ensuring staff are adequately trained is critical to South East Business SA member

Business manager Ken Sanders said NF McDonnell & Sons made sure staff were up to date with their Work Health and Safety training, along with offering refresher courses and Work Health and Safety compliance training.
“We want to be maintaining best practices and have our staff appropriately qualified and better at their jobs,” Ken said.
“We need training because we need to be ahead of the game. If we invest in training we get better outcomes out of our people.”
NF McDonnell & Sons, which operates a saw mill in Mount Gambier, is one of the regional city’s large employers.
With saw milling equipment, manual handling and other heavy machinery, workplace safety is critical.
“Training is not just external, it’s internal as well. We have toolbox meetings all the time and make employees aware of issues,” Ken said.
“We re-induct people again after they’ve come back from their breaks. We’re very proactive in these areas because we don’t want to have an accident and we want people to be the best they can be.”
