An appropriately skilled workforce is vital for the future of business in South Australia.
Business SA continues to advocate for the study of entrepreneurship to be embedded in the secondary school curriculum to ensure that starting a business is considered an option alongside tertiary education and trade level skills. Business SA also recognises that learning does not end when you leave school or university. Businesses need to be able to support and develop skills in their workforce and ensure that the training system allows them to meet current and emerging skills needs.
The introduction of WorkReady in 2015 now means that 90 per cent of subsidised training will be funded through TAFE. This decision is not good for choice or competition and hurts private training providers and employers. State Government funding of training needs to focus on industry skill requirements, areas where there are future job opportunities and deliver real outcomes for students and employers. Funding must be clearly targeted to labour market needs.
