What to post on social media

When it comes to social media, it’s common knowledge that posting regularly is the best way to be seen.
But what exactly should a business be posting?

Business SA posed this question to Georgi Roberts, Director and Digital Marketing Strategist of Pitstop Marketing.

Here’s what she had to say…

There are 4 categories of posts:
  • Educate
  • Entertain
  • Inspire
  • Convert
Educate: how to do something or an interesting article. With these types of posts, people spend time on them, they click through to a website to read more and they might share the post.

Entertain: the funny stuff. Memes, cute images, a story, a behind the scenes photo. This is about making your brand likeable and the opportunity to get the personality of your brand across.

Inspire: not necessarily the inspirational quotes, but more so a story about a fail turned into a win, a case study about who you’ve worked with that have used your service to help push their business forward, or congratulating another business. This is about making people feel good about something’s that happened – it appeals to emotion – and inspires them to take action.

Convert: when you want someone to click through to your website, purchase a product or sign up to your newsletter. But this should never be pure promotion, there should always be a reason.

The next step is to define the percentage of each category your business will post about.

There’s no magic formula, but ‘convert’ should never be the majority – it should always be the minority – because everything else is still living the brand.

You’re still allowed to talk about your business, that’s OK, just don’t shout about it!
