Young Entrepreneurs Say Yes to Success

18 August 2016

Thirty young entrepreneurs are ready and eager to take their businesses to the next level with today’s launch of the second round of SA Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (SAYES) for 2016.

A group of thirty innovative young South Australians will today begin a 12-month journey of business development through the South Australian Young Entrepreneurs Scheme (SAYES), a program created and coordinated by Business SA.

The second round of SAYES participants for 2016 are a mix of established and soon to be launched businesses, with all seeking success through the program of monthly educational workshops and comprehensive mentoring with industry experts.

Business SA’s Manager Learning Solutions, Kerry Sutton saidSAYES has been supporting young entrepreneurs for the past 18 years, drawing on the extensive experience of mentors and Business SA staff to provide in-depth advice on topics such as strategic planning, marketing, finance, communications, and legal and regulatory issues.

“We have 30 diverse and dynamic young entrepreneurs participating in this next round of SAYES. It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm and creativity these participants will bring to our economy,” Ms Sutton said.

One such participant is Alexander Thumm of Lamplight Forest, a game design studio dedicated to creating a new generation of “uplifting games that inspire soul and senses”.

“I am grateful and humbled by the opportunity to connect with some of the best mentors this state has to offer, and for the support to help realise the great potential of South Australian business now and in the future as part of a new generation of entrepreneurs,” Mr Thumm said today.

Fellow participant, Kristal Spencer is the Creative Director of Winestains, a unique range of handcrafted homewares made entirely from recycled wine barrels.

Ms Spencer is also the recipient of the Northern Adelaide Entrepreneur Scholarship – a collaboration between Business SA, The Stretton Centre, Elizabeth Community Bank (Bendigo) and Clientology.

“Being able to participate in the SAYES program is very exciting and I'm thrilled to be working with others who have the skills to help develop not only myself as an entrepreneur but my growing business,” Ms Spencer said.

More than 500 young entrepreneurs have graduated from SAYES in the past 18 years with a survey of 40 graduates in 2015 revealing they had created 531 new jobs and recorded 2014-15 turnover of nearly $65 million.
