Wilco Technologies

The concept for Wilco Technologies was launched in 2006 after its Managing Director, then working as an underground jumbo drill operator, saw an opportunity to improve the safety and efficiency of mining equipment.

Based in Kimba, South Australia, Wilco Technologies is a small business that provides innovative solutions to the mining sector in Australia and Indonesia, and soon the Philippines and Mongolia.

Wilco Technologies designed and developed a unique mining tool - the Trajectaflex Resin Firing System, the first of its kind in the industry.

The Trajectaflex Resin Firing System is a single pass system for installing resin capsules for resin set bolting. In simpler terms, the system allows resin glue capsules to be fired via air pressure through the system into a pre-drilled bolt hole. The spring mechanism of the nozzle allows it to self-index the bolt hole. Previously, such a nozzle with this spring mechanism was not available in the mining industry.

The Trajectaflex Resin Firing System was first used at BHP Billiton Olympic Dam underground mine in 2005 and today is used in many underground mines in Australia and Indonesia. Most recently, Resin Firing Systems have been sent to the Philippines and Mongolia for commissioning in late 2016.

The ability to use the system on a development jumbo drill has significantly increased the safety of underground miners, as there is much less time required off the operator's platform. Additionally, its simple design means that the system can be used on all jumbo feed rail profiles and machines. It also reduces bolting cycle times and is very low maintenance.

Wilco Technologies won the Minerals, Energy and Related Services Award at the 2016 Business SA Export Awards.
