Payroll Tax Concessions to Continue

16 November 2017

Business SA commends the South Australian Government for its decision not to wind back payroll tax concessions for small businesses, as part of its Budget Bill review.

Chief Executive Nigel McBride said the government had done the right thing after making ill-conceived threats to withdraw concessions in a bid to force the independents and the Opposition to back the failed bank tax proposal.

“Small and medium-sized businesses are the bedrock of the South Australian economy, and did not deserve to be threatened by moves to withdraw payroll tax concessions in exchange for bank tax support,” Mr McBride said.

“Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis yesterday said he wanted to be a friend of small business, and we welcome his decision to support thousands of businesses, many of them doing it tough, by ensuring they will continue to receive these important concessions.”

Mr McBride said the decision showed the Government was recognising the importance of small business to all of South Australia.

“Business SA welcomes any initiatives to improve trading conditions for businesses, particularly those doing it tough as they face higher overheads and increasing labour costs,” he said.
